Mingan (Ekuanitshit)

Geographic location:

The community is located on the edge of the St. Lawrence River, 200 km to the east of Sept-Ïles and 28 km to the west of Havre-Saint-Pierre. It covers a surface area of 18.13 km2 and is accessible by Route 138.

Population in 2007:

537 people (including  20 outside the reserve).

Characteristics:

Represented by the Mamu Pakatatau Mamit Assembly, the community is currently holding comprehensive territorial negotiations with the governments of Québec and Canada; sixty-seven percent (67%) of the population is under 35 years of age. At the economic level, the community is working to develop the commercial fisheries sector.

Infrastructures:

In addition to its infrastructures, the community has an outfitting establishment.
