Essipit

Geographic location:

Located on the edge of the St. Lawrence River, the Essipit Reserve is surrounded by the Municipality of Escoumins. Situated 40 kilometres from Tadoussac, the reserve has a surface area of 86.25 hectares.

390 people (including 215 outside the reserve).

Characteristics:

A Member of the Mamuitun Tribal Council, the community of Essipit is currently engaged in comprehensive territorial negotiations with the governments of Québec and Canada. Forty-four percent (44%) of the population is 35 years of age or under. The community, which is very dynamic, has acquired an expertise in the recreational tourism and outfitting sectors and has entered into a partnership agreement with Hydro-Québec as part of the project to divert Portneuf River.

Infrastructures:

In addition to the basic infrastructures, the community owns several recreational facilities and now offers a high-quality tourist accommodation complex.
