Appointment
February 16, 2006 – The Government of Québec is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Anthony Detroio to the position of representative of the regions for the comprehensive territorial negotiations with the Innu communities.
Mr. Detroio was Mayor of Port-Cartier from 1983 to 2006. Before that, he was elected municipal councillor of this city in 1975. He was also reeve of the regional county municipality of Sept-Rivières on three occasions, namely from 1987 to 1989, from 1995 to 1996 and from 2003 to 2006. Moreover, on two occasions he obtained the mandate of chairing the committee of reeves.
During his career, Mr. Detroio has distinguished himself by his dynamism, his leadership and his sense of initiative. He notably contributed to giving Port-Cartier a penitentiary establishment, which now provides the City with a stable economic contribution. He is also behind the recovery of numerous industries of the region.
As representative of the regions, his role will consist of informing and consulting the regions of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean and the Côte-Nord, which he will then have to represent at the negotiating table.
